Closing was thankfully uneventful. It rained cats and dogs the week leading up to the closing, so the exterior of the house was behind. The crew was still doing punch-out stuff during our final walk through, and even after we officially signed the paperwork, but our builder was really responsive and had workers out non-stop until everything was done. Whew! We closed on a Friday, and moved in the very next day - we were ready to get out of our rental as soon as possible.
Us in front of the new house! You'll notice a few exterior items missing paint, and a cleaning lady walking out the front door... maybe we should have timed it better?
After the move in. Stuff. EVERYWHERE.
I took a few days off and got the majority of stuff out of boxes and somewhat put away, but it took a lot of shuffling around to find a "home" for all our stuff. We have a lot of stuff. Stuff Stuff STUFF. Stuff to the point where the movers complimented us on how much we fit into our 900 sq. ft. rental. Oops!
We went to Cincinnati a few weekends later for a grand time at a wedding, followed by a week in Columbus with Brad's family for Thanksgiving. It was hard to leave the house as we're pretty much spent every spare moment getting settled in, but man oh man it was nice to see family.
When we got back, it was go-time. We busted our butts. First, we offered to host our godson Landon's birthday since his parents were waiting for their house to be built. This was the first time we were having people over, and a big incentive for us. We have a zillion adorable pictures of him, so expect them later on, but I'm trying to keep this post house focused. Next incentive? 5 upcoming house guests, well 6, if you count the extra pooch. My mama, my papa, my aunt, my sister, my brother-in-law, and my dog-nephew were all coming for the holidays, and we needed space for them. Again, tons of fun, a wonderful holiday, and photos to come later.
So that brings us up to January, and the current state of our home. I cleaned :)
(also, I know its February, but I'm playing catch-up)
The Yard
Mama helped us out, and we were actually able to get the yard completely fenced in before we had 3 dogs running all over, and it has made a huge difference in our lives. Look how happy Dixie is sunbathing!
The Living Room
We're still undecided if we should refer to this as the living room or the "great room". Our kitchen/dining/living space is all open, and the space feels huge! We have some plans for furniture swaps and rearranging down the road, but for now it feels pretty good.
Kitchen
I'm in love with our kitchen and island. I could sit there all day long. The barstools are new, and make this space so functional for us. Its hard keeping the island clear as its a great gathering spot for well, everything! In this case I decided to put 2000 puzzle pieces on it.
Study Nook
We originally had our 4-person round table in this corner, and the desk in the dining room space, but the table and chairs felt cramped, and the desk was awkward, so we swapped them out for a much better fit. Since we don't have an office yet, its nice having this in the common space and accessible. Our dining table is too small for the dining room, but for now it works.
Guest Bedroom 1
Downstairs guest bedroom, which might eventually turn into an office. Still working on furniture...
Guest Bedroom 2
Guest Bedroom 2
Upstairs guest bedroom. And no jumping the gun - the pack-and-play is our godson's!
Master Bedroom
We upsized to a king sized bed, and moved our queen to the guest. Now both the dogs can sleep with us comfortably, at least that was the idea. Our dogs are beds hogs!
And our dogs. Gotta end with a cute, albeit blurry, picture of the pups. They are pretty happy with the new home, and especially the new yard. they are spoiled and sweet and we love them, and are happy as clams settling into our new home as a family.
Now for the challenge, can you spot all 6 dog beds in these pictures?
